Gemini Sun's Push to Blog...

When I was in tenth grade I cut Earth Science everyday for three months straight. I simply wasn't interested in Earth Science (at the time) and felt that my presence in that room was merely keeping me away from all the other things I could be doing with myself. So in those months, in lieu of class, I would go to the music wing and learn how to play the viola and piano, as well as practice my violin or paint. Music was my true passion, and no silly school laws could stop me from doing what I felt was best for me. I learned a lot on my own terms in that time.

The thing was, I needed that Earth Science credit to graduate. The teacher never wrote me up for any of my absences, so I was never really forced (or motivated) to get back to Earth Science after such a successful and enlightened hiatus. It was actually a dear Aries friend that I still have today [EL.] that knew what I needed most of all, a push in the right direction. One day, in the hallway- Aries EL. literally pushed me into my Earth Science classroom as the bell rang. I was so embarrassed to suddenly be back in class without any kind of explanation as to where I had been the past quarter of the school year, I couldn't just walk out. So I stayed, and I learned, and I graduated.

The reason why I am recalling this memory is because it reminds me a lot of my blog participation within the past month. I have been so busy with the ART lab, traveling, life, and love that I continue to "cut" what would be my designated blogging time. So here I am. Pushing myself back into an important class, in hopes that more studious behavior will follow.

There are some really amazing updates to be had.

  1. I am the most legitimate version of an astrologist now, then I have ever been before. On behalf of the ART lab, I have been reading natal charts and spreading the good astrological word at the Common Grounds in Sayville the past two Sundays. It is the best place to practice my craft- after all, a great Libra once said, "If it wasn't for the Art Laboratory, where would I conduct all of my experiments?" -HF. Our next event is Sunday June 12. Aside from natal charts, I also have everyone in the park wearing custom made "HI, MY SIGN IS____" sticker-labels, so that everyone can become more aware of the stars power over their positions.

  2. Natal Chart Readings with Libra HF and Leo/Cancer Cusp DtM.

  3. I have been leaving guerrilla horoscopes throughout Long Island. Whether it be on coffee shop table tops, chalk on the sidewalk, or on paper left on someones car. It all started in Montauk last week on the bluffs of Camp Hero. All I had to do was ask the few passing couples I encountered what their signs were, and they were happy to oblige me with the information. Opening the eyes of the skeptics is not always one of the most fun things to do, but informing the masses is.

  4. What's next for this proud Sadge? One never knows. It really is a lot like the time I cut Earth Science all those months. All I've been doing is drawing, painting, singing, reading, writing, creating music, and having an amazing day everyday with the people I love and treasure most. The possibilities of "what's next" are endless!

As for Astrological updates, a big shout out is in order- HAPPY BIRTHDAY GEMINIS!

This is a very interesting time for us all. With the Sun in Gemini (May 21-June 20, a day before the summer solstice) every sign will be effected. We will all become a bit more OCD then normal- Spring cleaning and what not is one thing, putting everything else in it's "designated" place (on a ninety degree angle) is another! We will also be a bit more productive, and work oriented. It may have been especially tiring or stressful with the Aries moon combination we have been in since Friday. This has made for some very antsy individuals. It's important for us all to remember that this is a wonderful time of year. We should enjoy the adventures we are having in the moment, as well as the ones we plan to embark on. The Gemini Sun can cause anxiousness among others. Relax and remember, "it's summer time, and the livin's easy."

Reading the Signs: in the sky and the stage

What-a-week!

Not only did I make many astrological discoveries during Pod III's Open Mic Tour (my first *musicastrologist project), I also came to the conclusion that there is officiallyno such thing as a coincidence. One can make sense out of anything with astrology…

First things first- the tour. Man, there's nothing like five nights in a row of the best places to see the most talented people you know on Long Island! Not only did I have the opportunity to play violin, sing, spit, and jam with these amazing individuals, I was also "reporting in the field" for Pod III- a whole new rush of adrenaline in itself- hosting interviews and what not. (This experience stirred a new fascination I have with seeing the different ways people[or signs] behave when they know they're on camera!)

*Musicastrological Discoveries during Open Mic Tour 4/25-4/29:

  • Signs most likely to HOST an open mic? Sagittarius (JS., JH., JG.), Gemini (TG.,KF.), and Virgo (MC., DM.). This actually makes a lot of sense as all three of these signs are known to "bring the fun" and throw some great parties- both necessary elements for a successful open mic. More importantly, these signs are of some of the most musically inclined individuals anyone could ever know.

  • Signs most likely to PARTICIPATE in an open mic tour? Aquarius and Sagittarius would be the obvious answer since FS and I planned the tour. This is indeed the case when comparing the signs that most often followed us on tour throughout the week- Sadges JS, JH, DF, JG, Aquarian's BJ, JS, ZA, BF, as well as Capricorns (TC, SR).

  • Sign we're most likely to SEE THE OTHER SIDE OF at an open mic? Cancer! The Leo/Cancer duo-trend that has been among us for the last four weeks has been present at every open mic (and everywhere I go) this entire week. But it is only the Cancer that I have been able to see another side of when they transform into their rock star selves in front of a mic and an audience [Holla JM and AW]. These people are crazy geniuses- and that's why I love them!

  • Signs most likely to GO TO TOWN on a "Chicken Guy" Pod III sticker? OK-the quick explanation is this: Pod III's "chicken guy" got a sharpie make-over one day and we decided to take this project to the masses. The signs most likely to "go to town" on such a task are the creative minds of Cancer, Leo, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, and Pisces. (All signs did participate and the collection of make-your-own "chicken guy" stickers has taken on a life of its own! I plan to analyze the different illustrations, dividing the work by its creator's signs and identifying the similarities in style. For example, Pisces often use perspective in their "chicken guy" make-over, while Sagittarius' often give their "chicken guy" detailed physical attributes such as big hair, glasses, or accessories. Yep- crazy but true. More to learn on this soon!)

More *Musicastrological Finds via Signs…

Aries-
While on tour, Aries were some of our greatest supporters (as per usual). They were sure to be on the scene- not because of the cameras, but because they support what they love most- music and their friends. Many in this fire sign play multiple (or rare) instruments such as drums, keyboard, didgeridoo, and so on- quite fitting for this intellectual and talented group.

Taurus- Where were these guys last week? Perhaps it was all those birthdays that kept the Taurus away while the open mic’s played? Or maybe open mic is not the Taurean scene? They are more often the artists of the group, whether they share their work with the world or escape through it in their own time, as many artists do.

Gemini-These guys play some mean piano! Aside from being most likely to run an open mic, Gemini’s musical style reflects their mood. A break-up can be the inspiration for your next single.

Cancer-Man! These guys had a major break-through (musically) last week! If you were feeling down on Monday (4/25) your music and friends kept you in check. Lean on these things guys; with your talents and mile-a-minute train of thought, these are the elements that can change the tune of any funk you’re in. By Thursday (4/28) newly refreshed Cancers opened themselves to the world and the mic, and any audience could spot them for the stars they truly are.

Leo- You can’t go anywhere without a signature Leo in the mix! This sign was the lead star in the sky last week, so bank on a Leo being a part of any and every social engagement you could attend- including the open mic tour! A little advice to my fellow fire sign, if you are at any point not having the time of your life- ask yourself why and fix it. Don’t be afraid of being the lead star of any engagement, and do your best not to be bitter if you’re not. Relieve stress and find balance- Jam! (And dance!)

Virgo- My party people! Of course you run open mics, or any mic you can get your hands on. These stars are very lyrical, and never afraid to put themselves in the spotlight if they are accomplishing their main objective: having a great time!

Libra- The sweetest sign, did you have a crazy work week? Maybe things are a little crazy at home? Regardless of your responsibilities, you’re balanced enough to leave all of that behind and have a great time when you are out with your friends, feeling the music. Don’t be afraid to get involved in new musical endeavors- they’re sure to be life changing.

Scorpio-Ahh Scorps, you officially win the “best supporting friend” award, (not too surprising really considering the sign!) Scorpios went above and beyond for their people last week, venturing outside of their comfort zones to be present. These party animals have a blast wherever they are and know how to enjoy a night at open mic. [Special shout outs to those Scorps that showed their love for the good open mic name: KD, DF, SA, MM, and my two favs of all time SL. And JS.]

Sagittarius- What would we do without these guys? Well for starters, we wouldn’t have nearly as many amazing open mics to attend! While this sign is meant to shine like a North Star for all, in music they simply need to feel it and be a part of it. Some of my all-time favorite people to jam with are fellow Sagittarians, whether it is at open mic, outside the bar, in Starbucks, or home. This passionate sign plays music the same way they do everything else, uncensored and whole-hearted.

-Personally, the open mic tour was easily one of my favorite weeks in 2011. I was surrounded by the people, music, and places I love most. My brain and body never stopped. I traveled, learned, played, and observed- and I am so thankful for all of the amazing moments I experienced. Astrologically speaking, how much better could it get for a Sadge?

Capricorn-You guys have been out and about more than usual in the past few weeks, much like Cancers. Perhaps it’s your presence in Pluto (which stand for personal transformation) or the fact that you love open mics, but many super-cap-stars were shining brightly during our tour. These brilliant minds bring their A-game to every gig they have, and are highly respected by all. Don’t be fooled by a Cap’s aloofness, they have the ability to surprise us all!

Aquarius- You are open mic and everything that makes it amazing. Your high energy, positive vibes, and genuine belief and support in music and arts makes you a force to be reckoned with. Open mics need the musical genius of this group- whether it be in a band, solo act, lovable character on stage, or supporting artist in the scene. Aquarius is ruled by the planet Uranus, representing creativity. The open mic tour was swimming in an Aquarian sea of these imaginative folks, which I am sure led to its success.

Pisces-Where are my Pisces?! For such an amazing week to celebrate the local arts, I was stunned to see how few Pisces were in attendance. It seems as if this sign has been swimming in contaminated waters lately- don’t let yourself drink anymore of that Hate-oraid, Pisces. It’s not good for you or anyone around you. You simply need to go out and enjoy the music for what it is and what it does for your soul- don’t get caught up in drama- nothing will ever be worth leaving the dance floor.

That concludes my research for my first project as a *musicastrologist. It’s always interesting to connect the dots between the stars in the sky and the stage. I guess the only real conclusion I can come to is that it takes everything all of the signs have to offer to make the beautiful music we all enjoy- so let’s just remember to sit back (or get up) and enjoy it.
